The reason why I decided to start blogging was because I have this friend working as an intern in The Star (a newspaper in Malaysia) and they have this column where they get a few ‘test subjects’ to do a certain activity. It’s something like an experiment. The one I’m taking part in is where they get a few college students who have never blogged before to start their own blog and blog consecutively for about 5 days. Over the course of this ‘experiment’, I came to realize how difficult it is to blog well (even though Pei Ling pointed out to me that there is no such thing as a good or bad blog).
I have always marvelled at people who can write intelligently and entertainingly. At the same time, I get very sick of reading blogs that have ‘This morning i did this… after that, i did this… then, i went to that place… next, i did this..etc..etc..’ I wanted to write about what’s going on in my life without sounding too much like that, but I think I have failed quite miserably. Haha.
Someone pointed out to me maybe it was because I am trying too hard to write something that people would find entertaining, or would have some value to the reader, that I found it so tedious and not very pleasing to blog. I couldn’t agree with her more. Often times I was guilty of looking back at my entries and then starting to edit parts that I am not too satisfied with.
I think one of the benefits of this experience was that I started reading more blogs over the past week (to get inspiration and see different blogging styles) and discovered that there are many very smart, informative and entertaining blogs out there.
The last question of the ‘post-experiment’ interview was ‘Will you continue blogging after this?’ Maybe I will, but not as frequently as I did over the past week. I am still convinced that mass-emailing is a better way to keep in touch with friends.
Lastly, just like to thank all friends who kindly dropped by and also those who commented on blog entries =)
i knew there was a catch that you started blogging.. lol
